Our Muay Thai
Muay Thai is the most famous fighting sport/Martial Art from Thailand. It is known for its powerful striking technique, its deep respect for the roots and traditions of the past, and for its extremely effective conditioning methods. Muay Thai has a deep, rich history, both in its sport form an as a method of self defense. Like many martial arts, Muay Thai originated as an unarmed combat method used by soldiers in ancient Thailand. Eventually, the fighting art was expanded from the battlefield into a sport format. The most famous fighter of the ancient system was named Nai Khanom Tom. During one of the many wars with neighboring Burma, Nai Khonomtom was captured and forced to fight 9 Burmese boxers in a row. According to the legend, he defeated them all. The Burmese King was so impressed by this feat that he granted Nai Khanomtom his freedom. Originally, there were no weight classes, and rules were very limited. Fists were bound with rope instead of a glove. There were no time limits on a contest. In the early 20th century, Muay Thai adapted weight classes, use of a boxing ring as well as gloves for the fighters, in addition to timed rounds. These were borrowed from western boxing, and led to the ushering in of the modern era of the sport.
Our Muay Thai program is a mixture of the methods and teachings of several different gyms/camps in Thailand.
Our method draws from Legendary Champion and Trainer Sangtiennoi Sor Rungroj of the Tor Sangtien-Noi Camp, the hard punching style of the Muangsurin Camp, the aggressive low kicks and clinch methods of Dejrat Gym as taught by Boxing Works Coach/Fighter Kornpet Petchrachapat, and mixes it with the master class style and tricks from Ajarn Surachai Sirisute, the founder of the Thai Boxing Association of the USA, to give you the most well rounded approach to the art of Muay Thai. We are the only gym in Southern California to offer an authentic Thai style training camp. Come join our elite fighting team for fun & fitness, or get ready for your next competitive fight.
